The Richmond Beach Community Association’s annual Halloween carnival on Oct. 24 will have a new feature this year: a soft opening for kids with special needs.
Children with special needs are often not comfortable attending functions such as this due to the commotion of large crowds and noises. This year’s carnival will provide an opportunity for kids with special needs to have the gym to themselves for one hour from 2 to 3 p.m. to play carnival games in a less busy environment while also allowing any modifications possible to meet their skills and abilities. Their parents and/or caretakers are asked to volunteer at the carnival and use the special skills and knowledge they possess to staff the carnival games during this hour.
